Missing Pilot Found Dead in Kawartha Lakes
A 73-year-old pilot who disappeared after taking off from Oshawa Executive Airport has been found dead following an extensive search in Ontario's Kawartha Lakes region.
The pilot, identified as David Douglas, departed Oshawa Airport at about 8:30 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, in a small blue-and-yellow, single-seat amateur-built aircraft. He was expected to return approximately an hour later but failed to arrive, prompting a major search involving police and rescue agencies.
Search crews later located aircraft debris and the wreckage in Wolf Lake, within the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands area. The search subsequently shifted from a rescue operation to a recovery and investigation effort.
Aircraft Found Submerged in Wolf Lake
On Wednesday, authorities confirmed that Douglas had been found dead after days of intensive searching. His aircraft had been discovered submerged in Wolf Lake, according to reports on the recovery operation.
The Ontario Provincial Police took over the missing-person investigation after the wreckage was located, while other agencies involved in the search included the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Trenton.
